In 2006 Stéphane received his PhD from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland) with the thesis "The Geographic Dimension of Genetic Diversity : a GIScience Contribution for the Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources".
He collaborated with the Laboratory of Animal Genetics since 2001 in the context of the ECONOGENE project. He is in charge of the geographic analysis of genetic information.
In 2007, he received the first William L. Garrison Award for best dissertation in computational geography by the Association of American Geographers (AAG).
